What is a Sunscreen?

Sunscreens are divided into two main categories:

Chemical sunscreens which absorb UV radiation and Physical Sunscreens which reflect, scatter or block UV radiation.

Of course, ’sunscreens’ don’t only come in a bottle.
Clothing and hats provide some protection from the sun, but many types of clothing provide only weak or incomplete protection, and therefore applying a ‘chemical’ or ‘physical’ type sunscreen lotion, cream or spray adds to your degree of protection.

Remember, there is no such thing as a complete ’sunblock’.
It is always better to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during times of peak UV radiation, especially between 10 am and 2 pm during the summer months. Of course, many people can burn or tan from sunlight they receive early in the morning or later in the afternoon, so you will need to protect yourself, even while enjoying your outdoor time.
